History

The University Club is an elegant clubhouse that sits atop Nob Hill, founded in 1890 by alumni of multiple prestigious universities. The Club has remained a venue for the City's cultural and intellectual life. It boasts a diverse membership dedicated to fellowship and community service. We are absolutely thrilled to be sharing this special moment with our family and friends at this historic location.

Getting Here

Take BART to the Powell Street Station, which is six blocks south of the Club. From there you can take the Powell Street Cable Car line straight up (north) the six blocks north, or walk up the hill to California Street (this would be quite a workout!).

The Powell Street and California Street cable car lines intersect at our corner. The Powell Street line starts downtown below Union Square and runs all the way to Fisherman's Wharf, while the California Street line runs from the Financial District cross town to Van Ness Avenue.

The California Street line (#1) runs east along Sacramento Street and west along Clay Street which are parallel streets one block apart. Get off at the stop at Sacramento and Powell or the stop at Clay and Powell, depending upon which direction you are traveling.
